Vacations In The Seaside Town Of Scarborough In England

The British Isles is famed for its popular seaside resorts featuring fast food such as fish and chips, stag and hen parties, quirky postcards and kiss-me-quick hats. In the previous couple of decades only the resorts of Blackpool and Brighton have kept their visitor numbers as increasingly more  British folks travel to warmer places for their annual vacation. Nevertheless a few British resorts seem to be attempting to to regain their place in the British tourism industry. Within the article which follows I take a look at Scarborough an increasingly popular English seaside resort.

Scarborough is the oldest seaside resort in the United Kingdom having been mentioned in a book which was written around the 1660s, which mentioned the medicinal benefits of a nearby spa. The spa is still in existence today and it is situated on South Bay. Now called the Scarborough Spa Complex it, like many visitor attractions, has reinvented itself and provides a wide range of leisure services and also catering for weddings and company functions.

In many ways the town has cleverly managed to display itself as an excellent blend of the historic and the new. Still featuring a lot of its Victorian seaside appeal the resort now promotes  itself as centre for the artistic and digital industries. An increasing number of old structures are being updated and brought into the 21st century and, as an example, an old museum is today a specially designed area for artists. Enhancing this contemporary strategy to tourism now you can have access to a free wi-fi Internet connection all along the harbour’s promenade.

Altogether this rather bold strategy has helped to produce a wonderful place for a family orientated vacation with loads of attractions which are family friendly including numerous excellent galleries and museums, parks and gardens, theme parks and a fair selection of historic buildings. With a gorgeous coast and great countryside it’s little wonder that the seaside town also provides loads of opportunities for sports activities and the sport of surfing is very quickly rising in popularity.

Museums and art galleries in, or close to, Scarborough include the following galleries, Grosmont Gallery & Jazz Cafe, South Street Gallery, Scarborough Art Gallery and Crescents Arts plus the following museums, Eden Camp Modern History Theme Museum, Beck Isle Museum of Rural Life, The Rotunda Museum and Millenium.

Places of natural beauty, parks and gardens to visit include; The Bridestones, The Crosscliff Estate, The Walled Garden at Scampston and Hazelhead Lake plus Peasholm Park and Peasholm Island. Places of historical interest include Ebberston Hall, Peak Alum Works, Scampston Hall and Scarborough Castle. You may also find the following interesting, Church of St-Martin-on-the-Hill, The Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul, All Saints Church and Church of St Mary.

Probably the most favoured family attraction in Scarborough is the thrilling Sea Life Centre however other family tourist attractions well worth visiting include; Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo, Atlantis, Kinderland and Terror Tower plus several other animal and wildlife attractions for example, Grainary Wildlife Farm, Betton Farm and Moorland Trout Farms.

Obviously the above article is only a short introduction to the numerous attractions in the town but if after reading my above article you would wish to take a short vacation at this amazing resort and you are searching for Scarborough Bed and breakfast then please think about examining our comprehensive listings of discount Scarborough hotels.
