When we are scheduled to go on a trip we get so impatient to leave the house that we lose sight of some basic precautionary measures. So what you should do is prepare a list of what to do that you can refer to before leaving the house. These precautions will keep you from being surprised with some unfortunate events when your get back home.
First: Turn down the water heater to the minimum.
Second: If youre leaving during summer, leave the air conditioner on. Never mind your power bill, what matters is that your pets will not swelter in the heat and your electronics are protected.
Item Three: If it is springtime or fall, you can lower your heater setting. During winter, your home should be left sufficiently warm. Again, it may cost you in terms of power bills but you will be protecting your pets as well as water pipes and fittings.
Fourth: Give the impression that somebody is at home by leaving shades and drapes as they normally are.
Item Five: Have a radio that is programmed to turn on and off at different times to give the impression that the house is occupied.
Reminder Six: Close and lock all access in and out the house.
Seventh: Storms are liable to damage some of your electronics, so take then necessary precaution by unplugging them. Your phone should be off the modem. However, if your computer serves as the answering machine, you have no choice but to leave it hooked up. Protect your electronics and appliances with surge regulators.
Item Eight: Leave your car in the garage with the door closed, so passersby will not know that you will be away for some time.
Item Nine: Disengage your garage door. You may unplug it if possible, and dont just pull out the fuse for the garage without checking if it is connected to other appliances that needs to be kept running.
Following these nine things will ensure that you will have an enjoyable vacation. You can then enjoy your vacation to the fullest knowing that you have taken care of everything at home.
