The Island Adventure That Is Lanzarote

Many people simply find the urge to arrange a week or two in the sun almost irresistible. Since the birth of the package holiday forty years ago, a week or fortnight on foreign shores is no longer considered a luxury, rather it is an essential purchase that those with the travel bug just cannot ignore.

This small volcanic outcrop successfully manages to combine some of the best aspects of beach holidays with unspoiled scenery, a flamboyant and colourful culture and a range of interesting attractions that are appealing to both the young and older visitors to the island.

In a time warp of it own you’ll still find local farmers still using donkeys to plough their fields from time to time, whilst many others produce wines in their own small bodegas using extremely unique techniques, with the vines being grown in circular beds hollowed out from the black volcanic picon and surrounded by small stone walls to protect them from the hot dry wind. It’s often said that Lanzarote holidays are rarely a failure.

If you are considering a base for exploring what the island has to offer, a villa or apartment is the obvious choice for most people as each day can be organised exactly as you wish with none of the drawbacks of hotel dining rooms to negotiate or meal times to consider. Combined with a hire car it is the best way to discover somewhere new and ensure that your holiday in Lanzarote is a memorable experience. You can find a great choice of Lanzarote hotels on Lanzarote’s most popular website.

Lanzarote has a number of main resorts and all offer something different so all we can do is to give you some guidance. The resort of Playa Blanca was developed long after its resort rivals to the north and until as recently as the 1980´s was still just a small fishing port and ferry harbour from where boats crossed the Bocaina Straits to the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura.

However its twin natural advantages of great weather and excellent beaches made it an obvious spot for tourist development and it has gone from strength to strength ever since.

The cultural side of the islands calender really starts to hot up on Lanzarote in February as Carnival gets under way across the island. This sees thousands of revellers donning colourful costumes and work pretty much grinding to a halt for a couple of weeks. Events are spread and take place at different times across Lanzarote.

Whilst not quite in the same league as Rio the most riotous Carnival processions and celebrations can be found in the island capital of Arrecife and the largest resort of Puerto del Carmen.

Lanzarote is a lovely island to choose for a holiday vacation with lovely weather, water sports, golf courses, local shops with hand made goods. This is also a great choice of Restaurants selling fresh sea food, Italian cuisine, Spanish, Greek – something to suit everyone of every age.
