Not everyone is going to like this but there are a lot of people who like to go and work on a French farm while they are on holiday in the country. The word holiday for most us, means a place in the sun where we can lie on a beach all day long. I mean at the end of the day, isnt a holiday a time when we should be enjoying ourselves after working hard all year? But working on a farm in France for your holidays seems to be a popular choice for many people these days from the UK and other countries.
Peter Mayles book A Year in Provence has been attributed for kick-starting this trend for agricultural holidays. His book was all about getting away from it all to work on a farm in France and it has given plenty of people the inspiration to try it out for themselves by heading off to France for a working holiday. And even though not many people can actually take a whole year off like Peter Mayle did, they are settling instead for a couple of weeks here and there. Of course, the French Tourist Board is delighted with the idea of foreigners coming to work on their farms for free; I would imagine that many farmers are similarly happy with the deal.
And for people in the UK it really couldnt be easier to get to France especially with the handy tunnel which now connects the two countries. These holidays have proved to be very popular lately as many who have taken them have reported to feeling very refreshed at the end on them. It seems you really dont need to go lie on a beach to have a relaxing holiday. A lot of people actually believe that some type of work can be like a form of meditation and can leave you feeling relaxed; remember the saying – a change is as good as a rest.
Nowadays, many people are driving to their foreign holiday destination. Many people head to the South Coast to grab thedover to Calais ferry. Doing this takes away the worry of thinking about channel tunnel prices. And what better way to get to France for some Calais shopping?
