Do You Know Where To Get Your Passport?

A passport is a portable document around 3x 4 in size, which can serve as your ID and is a requirement for entry back to the USA by plane. There are many types of passports, usually delineated by the color of the flap. The colors may denote a military position or affiliation (red), while blue is the regular one. You will find a photo of the bearer in the passport, some personal information and emergency contact details, as well as visa details.

If you think applying for a passport is a drain or tedious, just think of the places you cannot go to because you dont have one. Most countries require a passport for entry into their territories. But even US territories now are requiring a passport.

If one member of your family is lacking a passport, you may be at a disadvantage when you need to travel as soon as possible. Get an application form online and make sure you completely fill it out. If you cannot spare the time to apply and do the legwork for passport renewal, you can hire someone to do it for you. You can always find a way, and the only real issue is time to do it. It is recommended that you dont go for last minute applications when you can.

The form is available on the travel.state.gov website. There is a list of instructions and links to follow so you wont get lost in the navigation. Note that you have to determine which form is applicable to you. If its your first passport, you are required to go in person so that they can verify your identity. The same is true if you are under 16 years old. Name change cases will also need to go through the same process.

A prompt to estimate what you owe as application fee will come up after you complete the form. Theres nothing you can do to make the processing go faster, so its best to apply six months before your scheduled holiday. Rushing the processing of your passport can be done but it will require effort and a ton of cash. You must travel to one of 17 agencies for passport applications. Note that you cannot just go there, you need to book an appointment. You may also need to pay extra for rush processing.
