Many people decide to spend their holidays to Costa del Sol due to the Spanish region’s robust tourism facilities. The region is characterized by white-sand beaches, excellent resorts, sunny weather, amazing natural wonders, stunning architecture, rich culture, and friendly people, all drawing crowds of visitors from all across the globe.
Another reason Costa del Sol remains a well-known tourist spot is that the region is readily accessed from air, land, and sea. In fact, the Malaga airport has opened recently a new terminal called Pablo Ruiz Picasso. The terminal, an open-plan glass-and-steel building can contain more than 20 departure points and 86 check-in desks that cater to more than 9,000 passengers an hour. Automatic state-of-the-art luggage systems can manage 7,500 pieces of luggage per hour for more than 100 airlines. The facility also has the usual amenities such as restaurants, cafes, shops, resting areas, offices, and business centers to make any traveler comfortable. Malaga airport officials expect that the airport will be able to serve 20 million passengers per year.
Land travel has not been left out. In 2007, Spanish newspapers published in their headlines the operation of a new state-of-the-art train that connects Malaga and Madrid. The AVE, or Alta Velocidad Espanola, is a service of high-speed trains that can reach speeds up to 300 kilometers per hour. That means passengers can travel from Madrid to Malaga and vice versa in less than 3 hours. The success of the AVE promoted the construction of a rail link to connect Barcelona to Anteguerra. There are also plans to link Malaga and Seville via AVE, which makes it possible for one to travel to either city in less than an hour! Best of all, the government is eyeing at AVE trains to have stops in all Andalucian airports in the future.
For sea travel, the city of Malaga is presently constructing the San Andres Port. When finished, the dock will have 626 mooring berths, a sailing school, and an entire complex. Two more major constructions are still in the pipeline. One is a major extension of the existing docks. The other one is a dock specifically made for cruise ships.
