Cardiff (UK) Has Much To Offer Tourists

Cardiff is the capital city of Wales and an extremely popular tourist destination. If youre thinking of planning a trip there, then read our guide for some top tips on things to see and do. No trip to Cardiff would be complete with a look around the Bay, which is the largest waterfront development in Europe. Next to the Bay is the Wales Millennium Centre, opened in 2004 and home to some of the best Welsh theatre and music. There are even free concerts in the foyer every lunchtime.

A great place to visit for history lovers is Cardiff Castle, the foundations of which are based on a Roman fort. You can also seem some fascinating excavated Roman ruins. Alternatively, you could go on one of the many tours to check out the Welsh regimental museum, the Norman fort at the heart of the castle or the brilliant Bute section of the castle. This features some spectacular artwork and was renovated in the 1900s. Its well worth a visit.

If youre on a budget then try visiting the National Museum Cardiff, which boasts free entry and some great displays from throughout history. The Evolution of Wales display features dinosaurs and woolly mammoths that the kids are sure to love. You can also view sculptures by Rodin and paintings by Cezanne, Van Gogh and others; the museum has one of the largest collections of Impressionist paintings outside Paris. There are also some great Welsh history displays feature archaeological and geological items of interest.

If you want to get out and about in the city, then check out the great shopping facilities such as the Hayes, where you can find the oldest record shop in the world. You can also find some great Welsh produce and visit a range of artistic stalls at the fantastic Central Market. Alternatively, for stunning architecture and an all round great shopping experience, visit the Victorian arcades where you can find lots of interesting, independent shops and cafes that youre sure to love.

Finally, you could explore Cardiff Bay in more detail by going on a fantastic boat ride to see the sights and take in the surroundings. If youre on a budget or just like to do things your own way, then its a great idea to take a walk along Mermaid Quay. This walk is about 2 kilometers long with the harbor on one side of the path and the sea on the other and you can soak up the truly spectacular views youll experience along the way.
